What is GPLv3 and how does it affect me?+
TypeWhisper is open source under the GPLv3. In practice: you can use the app freely for personal use. If you distribute software that embeds TypeWhisper, GPLv3's copyleft rules apply - your distribution has to be GPL-compatible. If that's a problem (most proprietary use cases), grab a commercial license.
I'm a freelancer - do I need a commercial license?+
If you use TypeWhisper to produce work you bill a client for, yes - that's commercial use. The Individual tier is designed for single-seat freelancers.
I use it at work but pay for it myself - what tier?+
Still commercial use. The license is tied to how the software is used, not who pays. The Individual tier fits one person using it at work.
Can I upgrade from Individual to Team later?+
Yes. Write to licensing@typewhisper.com and we'll prorate the difference against your existing subscription or lifetime purchase.
What's the difference between a Supporter tier and a Commercial license?+
Supporter tiers are a thank-you for individuals who want to fund the project. They do NOT grant any commercial or proprietary use rights. If you need to use TypeWhisper at work or in a closed-source product, you need a Commercial license.
Does Lifetime include future updates?+
Yes. Lifetime covers all future TypeWhisper updates in the same product line.
What happens if I cancel my monthly subscription?+
You keep access until the end of your paid period. After that, your commercial license expires - the app keeps working for personal use, but you would need to re-subscribe (or switch to Lifetime) to continue commercial use.
Can I get a refund?+
Yes. Write to licensing@typewhisper.com within 14 days of purchase and we'll refund you, no questions asked.
Do you offer educational or non-profit discounts?+
Non-profits and students, get in touch at licensing@typewhisper.com. We usually have headroom for fair discounts.
How do I activate my license?+
Open TypeWhisper, go to Settings > License > 'Already have a key?', paste the key you received after checkout, and it activates on the current device.
