Stable
Windows is a stable desktop release. Installation details, onboarding flow, and first setup for Windows 10 and 11.
Installation
Install TypeWhisper from the Microsoft Store or with the matching GitHub installer, then complete the four-step setup.

System requirements
- • Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- • x64 or ARM64 processor
- • Enough free disk space for your selected local models
- • Optional: NVIDIA CUDA, AMD Vulkan, or AMD ROCm acceleration for supported local models
- • Internet access for installation, model and add-on downloads, and cloud engines
1. Install the app
Recommended: Microsoft Store
The Store selects the correct architecture, manages updates, and avoids the known SmartScreen warning shown for the direct installer.
Open TypeWhisper in the Microsoft StoreAlternative: GitHub installer
If the Store is unavailable, download the installer for your PC from the latest stable release:
SmartScreen: Windows may show “Unknown publisher” for the direct installer. This is a known limitation of that installation path. Continue only when the file came directly from the official TypeWhisper release and its SHA-256 hash matches the hash published with that release.
Background: GitHub Issue #314

- 4. Try it outRun a short test dictation and confirm that text appears in the target field.

Startup and updates
For a new installation, Start with Windows is enabled by default. Change it during onboarding or later in Settings > General. Store installations update through the Microsoft Store; direct installations use the built-in updater.
Data location and uninstall
Settings, models, history, plugins, and recordings are stored under %LOCALAPPDATA%\TypeWhisper-UserData. This user data remains after a normal app uninstall.
- Quit TypeWhisper from the tray menu.
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps and uninstall TypeWhisper.
- For a clean removal, back up anything important before deleting the folder above.
